NESREA Seals 13 Facilities in Abuja

George George Idowu

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) have sealed off thirteen facilities in Abuja on Friday.

This is in compliance with Agency’s commitment to enforcing compliance with existing environmental regulations across Nigeria, as highlighted in the briefing by Prof. Aliyu Jauro, the Director General of NESREA, represented by Mr. Abdulsalam Isa, the Director of Inspection and Enforcement.

He said the sealing of the facilities was prompted by their failure to address various environmental concerns, such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Audit (EA), and Environmental Management Plans.

Jauro said both green and brown sector establishments were among those sealed.

He added that NESREA’s clampdown followed due process, with extensive communication efforts made to rectify the environmental infractions prior to enforcement action.

According to him, despite previous sealing, some facilities were found to have broken the Federal Government seals, warranting further punitive measures.

The list of sealed facilities includes Veritas Plastics, Almat Farms, Dayak Nigeria Limited, FIK Contracting Limited, Salis Ventilated Homes Ltd, Peachville Estate, Net Construction Nigeria Limited, Sazak Acre Bilogue, Coppa D’alberto Ltd, Efab Properties Ltd, Hommes Ltd, Phinada Mill, and Skippers Electronics.

Expressing concern over the alarming non-compliance of these facilities with environmental laws, NESREA reaffirmed its commitment to replicate such enforcement measures across all states of the federation.

He said this decisive action underscores the agency’s dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s environment and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
