NEMA intensifies flood preparation in Kogi

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has ramped up flood preparedness efforts in Kogi State in response to the 2025 seasonal rainfall forecast, which predicts severe flooding in several parts of Nigeria.
During a sensitization visit to vulnerable communities, NEMA’s Director-General, Zubaida Umar Abubakar, emphasized the urgency of early warnings and community-level engagement to mitigate flood impact.
The campaign targets ten high-risk local government areas in Kogi State.
Residents were educated on preventive measures such as clearing drainage systems and creating evacuation plans.
Abubakar highlighted the repeated destruction caused by floods in Nigeria and called for coordinated strategies to safeguard lives and property.
This initiative is part of a broader national awareness campaign, with NEMA urging residents in flood-prone zones to remain vigilant and adhere to official guidance.
The team included representatives from the National Inland Waterways Authority, Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, Ministry of Health, Red Cross, and Civil Society Organizations.
The delegation visited flood-prone areas, including Ganaja in Lokoja metropolis.
