NEMA, commission Audio-visual communication on disaster and humanitarian outlook

National Emergency Management Agency has launched Audio-visual communication on disaster and humanitarian outlook, a project implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KS Relief) Saudi Arabia, a relief item donated to Internally Display person (IDP) in support of real-time monitoring and communication during emergencies.

The Director General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, commissioned the project on Monday in Abuja, while briefing press on the impact and support of KS Relief.

The DG of NEMA, said that the flooding disaster that has affected the entire Federation of Nigeria has tested the wits of emergency responders, adding that this development has brought to fore the importance of international collaboration on emergency services delivery in the country.

While commending the humanitarian team, the DG said with this development that no doubt it will enhance the response of job and facilitate efficient management and deployment of life saving, human and materials resources.

” I am extremely delighted that this very important system was commissioned today by the delegation from KS Relief Centre.

” I am also delighted to announce that KS Relief has proposed to donate 16, 000 food baskets of relief materials to Borno State for another two cycles of intervention to be distributed in the IDP camps, in collaboration with SEMA and other partners.

” The real-time monitoring and communication equipment and proposed relief assistance are timely and can not come at a better time than now, when the country is bearing the brunt of widespread flood disaster with 603 lives lost, 1,302,589 people displaced.

“And critical assets including roads and farmlands washed away as a result of the intensive deluge.

” The equipment donated to NEMA will no doubt enable NEMA effective coordination of its relief and recovery activities across the affected states as Nigeria passes through this challenging moment,” he stated.

In his welcome address, Alhaji Alhassan Nuhu, Director, Relief and Rehabilitation Of NEMA said that this is significant in marking the signing of an Agreement for the implementation of food assistance projects to people affected by insurgency in Borno State.

He, however, added that the commissioning of Real-time monitoring and Communication equipment that was also donated to Nigeria through NEMA by the Centre.

“This is not the first time KS Relief will be extending their support to Nigeria. NEMA’s relationship with KS Relief started in 2018 when it donated food items worth $10 million to 140,486 Households in Borno and Yobe State,” he stated.

In their speech, Alaskah Muaz Sulaiman and Alyousef Abdukarim Abdul-mohsen representatives of the KS Relief team said that the provision of the communications equipment will facilitate the communications between NEMA and the field offices, adding that will enable NEMA to coordinate humanitarian response to the affected population in the country.

” This aid comes as an extension of the relief and humanitarian efforts provided by the government of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” they added.
