NCPWD Agitates for inclusion of Climate Change Policy

The National Commission for Persons With Disability (NCPWD) has agitated for inclusion of climate change policy as Nigeria facilitates engagement with Outpatient Department (OPDs) in critique of emergency and disaster preparedness and response policies and procedures.
The commission Executive Secretary, James David Lalu made the statement on Monday in Abuja, while briefing the pressmen ahead of Global Disability Summit 2022.
Speaking on, Lalu said this in agreement with the strategic objective Six (6) of the NCPWD which stated that inclusive of persons with disabilities adherence to, in accessible risk information, evacuation processes, shelter and food/non-food item distribution, water, sanitation and hygiene service, nutrition interventions, and provisions of health and protection services among others.
In addition, he said the NCPWD is committed to working with development partners as well as using their resources to achieve these commitments in Nigeria.
He revealed that this commitment aims to support women, ethnic minorities, indigenous People, and other marginalized groups of people with disabilities.
He said Nigeria commits to supporting initiatives and partnerships that encourage the media to portray persons with disabilities in a manner consistent with the convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
“To transform the labour market system to be more inclusive of persons with disability through relevant employability, vocational and digital training for youth with disabilities.
“Nigeria is committed to an inclusive working environment that includes provisions of appropriate reasonable accommodation and development of accessible innovation for tomorrow’s world of work to address the digital gap and develop flexible work arrangements.
Mr. Lalu further commended the Nigeria government passage of discrimination against persons with disabilities which has fully been passed into law.
He added that the establishment of the National Commission for Personal Disabilities is another milestone in bringing people to the area of disaggregation of data.
“Nigeria’s disability community is fully loaded, as the plan for the 2022 National Population includes persons with disabilities in the questionnaire and it has shown disability which is very rare as invisible to the disability community and as proposed by the National Committee,” he stated.
