NatureNews Honour Boroffice With Media Award On Environment

Boroffice emerged the winner elected among a pool of nominees from across Nigeria and Africa for her innovative and scalable solution to the plastic waste and unemployment crisis in Sub Saharan Africa.

The award organisers noted that her company transforms waste into value and creates jobs for women and youth, while reducing environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

She is also a leader in the circular economy and a role model for social entrepreneurship. Ms Boroffice is a Nigerian woman entrepreneur who is passionate about solving the plastic waste and unemployment problems in her country.

Chanja Datti Ltd is a company that collects and recycles plastic waste and other materials across the Area Councils in Abuja, Nigeria.

The company operate by partnering with waste pickers, women and youth groups, and local communities to source waste from various locations. Thereafter, the company sort, clean, and process the waste into flakes or shreds, which are sold as raw materials to other manufacturers. The company also produce eco-friendly products such as paving stones, tiles, and furniture from recycled plastic.

Chanja Datti Ltd creates value from waste, reduce environmental pollution, and empower marginalized groups through job creation and income generation hence the recognition accorded the company by NatureNews.

Ms Boroffice has a background in finance and accounting and has worked as a senior aide to the Minister of Power. She is also a founding member and former VP of the Recycling Association of Nigeria and a Legatum Centre Fellow at MIT. She is a leader in the circular economy and a role model for social entrepreneurs.
