The Executive Director of Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) Nnimmo Bassey has emphasized the critical need for environmental restoration and sustainable practices in a statement marking the 2024 World Environment Day
Bassey urged a collective reflection on our duty to nature, highlighting the importance of halting deforestation, biodiversity loss, and land degradation.
He warned that without significant climate action, humanity would continue to face escalating crises.
He called for an emergency environmental restoration plan in Nigeria to combat environmental degradation, water stress, and desertification, stressing the importance of restoring polluted lands and compensating affected communities.
Bassey also advocated for sustainable living and harmonious relationships with nature, underscoring the finite nature of Earth’s resources.
He concluded by urging governments to ensure communities are informed and consulted on environmental projects, recognizing their vulnerability and need for protection.
