The Zamfara State office of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) Zamfara State and an NGO, Yazid Project Development, have jointly organized a one-day sensitization program for farmers to promote agricultural insurance and encourage resilient farming practices.
In his address, Mr. Auwal Haruna, Manager of NAIC Zamfara, said the initiative aims to transition farmers from traditional methods to insured operations, providing a safety net against agricultural risks.
He noted that the mandate of NAIC is to educate farmers on protecting crops and livestock against losses from disease, pests, and other hazards, while ensuring timely claims for business continuity and food security.
Mr. Haruna commended the collaboration with Yazeed Project Development, describing the partnership as crucial for enhancing farmers’ capacity and creating awareness on ways to improve food production in the state.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of Yazeed Project Development, Abubakar Umar, said the program is designed to strengthen food security and improve access to credit and agricultural loan services. He urged participants to apply the skills they acquired during the sensitization sessions.
The program drew participants from a variety of local agricultural groups, including the Providence Crops and Livestock Farmers Association (PCLFA), Poultry Farmers/Marketers Associations, Farming Sustainable Initiative (FASI), and the National Cottage Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN), among others.
