NADF Provides N1.6 billion To Support Ginger Farmers In Nigeria

The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), says it has offered a support package worth N1.6bn to ginger farmers in three states, across Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.

Executive Secretary Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, made this known during the launch of the Ginger Blight Epidemic Control Taskforce support initiative in Abuja, recently.

Abu stated that the support was provided under the Ginger Recovery Advancement and Transformation for Economic Empowerment (GRATE) initiative.

He revealed that the initiative was being executed in partnership with the office of the Vice President. He pointed out that the project recently kicked off in Kaduna state.

He further noted that a total of 15,000 ginger farmers from Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory were impacted by the recent outbreak of ginger blight in the country.

The Executive Secretary also pointed out that the Federal Government, through the NADF, is offering assistance worth N1.6bn in the form of input packs for one hectare of land.

He explained that the support package for farmers includes one 20kg bag of high-yield seed variety, four 50kg bags of NPK fertilizer, two 50kg bags of urea, and two 1kg bags of fungicide.

Additionally, there is one 1ltr bottle of insecticide, two 1 litre bottles of herbicide, and one 2 litre bottle of post-emergence herbicide.He expressed the team’s enthusiasm to see ginger farming thriving in rural communities once again in the near future.

Commenting, the Technical Assistant on Agriculture in the Vice President’s office, Marian Moon, emphasized that the government is prioritizing agriculture and ginger farming as part of its renewed agenda program.
