Commuters and motorists have expressed their dissatisfaction over the delay in the completion of a section of Gwagwalada-Abuja-Lokoja road.
They expressed their views in separate interview with NatureNews in Gwagalada, Abuja on Sunday.
The two lane expressway were merged into one lane in order to continue the construction of the other lane which is a kilometer portion of the entire project.
The project which is being undertaken by Dantata and Sawoe company starts from the SDP junction and ends at Sidi Ali plaza.
A driver, Adeku Isah, who spoke with NatureNews said, it’s unfortunate that a road which has been under construction since January is yet to be completed.
“Imagine how slow a one kilometer construction is, instead of the company to employ more people so that the road will have a fast completion.
“We, the road users are at the receiving end of the torment.” He said.
Another Motorist, Isah Muhammed Jamiu, maintained that the company and government are not doing enough to curb the hectic queue of cars on the road due to the construction.
“If government knows what people pass through, they will hasten the contractors to speed up the work and ensure a quick completion,” he added.
A resident of Gwagalada, Mary Ozuah, said, apart from the delay and stress caused by the gridlock, accidents have consequently been unavoidable on the road.
“Due to the blockage of the other lane, a lot of accidents occur daily, mostly the impatient motorist, which is very sad,” she said.
Meanwhile, NAN reports that a representative of the construction company, Mr Daniel Simon, disclosed that the road will be completed by the end of May.
According to him, the company have been ordered to speed up the construction due to the gridlock that happens on the road regularly.
He noted that the work is close to 100% completion, as some drainages and road demarcations are yet to be put in place.”
