More than 1.4m stimulant tablets seized in eastern Myanmar

Myanmar’s authority says it has seized over 1.43 million stimulant tablets worth over 700 million kyats (0.33 million U.S. dollars) in Shan state, the state-run media said on Friday, citing police sources.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotic police intercepted a vehicle on Pinlaung-Tatkon road in Pinlaung Township of the southern Shan state at around 3 p.m. and confiscated the drugs.

According to an investigation, the stimulant tablets were to be transported to Kayin state from Shan state, it said.

The driver was charged under the country’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, it said.

Further investigations were underway, it added.
