By Abdullahi Lukman

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has directed the management and staff of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project to intensify efforts toward achieving food security, strengthening dam management and improving hydropower generation.

The minister issued the directive during a working visit to the SPIN Project Office in Abuja, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Emanso Umobong, and other directors.

Prof. Utsev said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda across all sectors, stressing that SPIN, as a flagship project of the ministry, must deliver on its mandate to scale up irrigated agriculture and enhance power generation.

The minister noted that the project would significantly boost food production, create employment opportunities, and improve livelihoods nationwide.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the World Bank for supporting the smooth take-off of the project and commended SPIN management and staff for progress recorded so far, urging them to sustain the momentum.

In his response, the National Coordinator of SPIN, Engr. Ipinlaye Olaiya, thanked the minister, the permanent secretary and the ministry’s management for their support, which he said has contributed to the successful start of the project.

He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to fully delivering on SPIN’s objectives.

The visit also featured a tour of SPIN’s proposed new office in Apo, Abuja, conducted by Engr. Olaiya for the minister and other officials.
