The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society has stated that it will launch a scientific investigation on the cause of carbon emissions also known as soot in Port Harcourt, capital city of Rivers State.
The society said researchers will come out with appropriate solutions that will put an end to soot in the city.
The national president of the society, Charlesye Charles said this at a news briefing in Port Harcourt, ahead of the body’s installation of its 31st President and conference slated in the Rivers State capital on Saturday.
“We have heard stories about military burning petroleum products. We have also heard stories about incomplete combustion in the refineries.
“All sorts of stories, but I believe that by the time we have the conference here and researchers have gone into field to do imperial study, they will be able to tell the nation what the problem about this soot and the way to go about solving it,” he stated.
NatureNews had earlier reported that 2021 made it six years the city has suffered the invasion of soot.
Soot was discovered in November 2016 and it has continued to increase till date.
