The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has embarked on a collaborative effort with Ekiti State by initiating the production of waste bins to address various waste management and environmental challenges in the region.
Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the CEO of LAWMA, expressed the organization’s commitment to promoting proper waste management practices not only in Lagos but also in other states.
The collaboration with Ekiti State involves the fabrication of waste bins at a reasonable cost by LAWMA, signifying a proactive approach to environmental issues.
Gbadegesin highlighted the significance of in-house manufacturing, providing LAWMA with greater control over quality, production speed, and cost-effectiveness.
This move ensures a continuous supply of bins for Lagos and extends support to Ekiti State, serving as a pilot program for potential collaborations with other states in the future.
The CEO emphasized that waste management is a nationwide issue, and any state can approach LAWMA for assistance. LAWMA is open to providing technical support, training, and manpower to help other states develop effective waste management systems.
Gbadegesin underscored the success of LAWMA’s Engineering Department in creating a robust process for manufacturing waste bins using locally sourced materials, catering to diverse waste management requirements.
The initiative not only ensures cost-effectiveness and quality control but also promotes skill development and job creation within the agency.
Furthermore, it encourages the use of local materials, reducing dependence on foreign imports.
The in-house fabrication of waste bins by LAWMA is seen as a comprehensive solution that benefits not only the organization but also extends support to other states interested in acquiring bins at an affordable price.
This initiative reflects LAWMA’s dedication to sustainable waste management practices and collaboration for the greater environmental good.
