LASG urges Ikorodu residents to embrace cooking gas

Dr Dolapo Fasawe, General Manager(GM), Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), on Friday urged residents of Ikorodu to embrace the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas.

Fasawe gave the advice during a programme tagged ” Sanwo-Olu Swtich 2 Gas” organised by LASEPA in partnership with Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority(LSLGA).

The general manager said that use of cooking gas would reduce environmental pollution, which he said, would promote the health of Lagos residents.

“Well, you must have heard about Eko clean air, Gov Sanwo-Olu is particularly concerned about the environment and health of Lagosians.

“In protecting the health and environment, we have to stop burning fossil fuel. In other words, we have to start using cooking gas.

“The truth is that we have done a lot of research and many people do not really understand the benefits in terms of cost, health and efficiency of cooking with gas.

“This is an advocacy program and we have brought some gas cookers and cylinders here so that people can see the benefits , ” she said.

According to her, the agency will.engage residents in all the 20 local government areas and the 37 local council developmental areas of Lagos State on the benefits of cooking gas .

“However, you will agree with me that when you start cooking with gas, your health will improve .So ,it is only natural that you will continue to cook with gas.

“The single most important key performance indicator of LASEPA is to keep the environment and air clean.

“The quality of health is directly proportional to the quality of the environment ,” she said.

Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer(CEO) LSLGA, Mr Bashir Are, said that the agency was established to regulate gaming in the state and also collect gaming taxes .

He said the law required that taxes collected should be spent on the environment, education, Infrastructure, security and health.

He advised residents to switch to the use of cooking gas in view of its many benefits.

“It is also an economic programme. The
more the usage, the more people selling it will make money”, he said .

The traditional leader of Igbogb in Ikorodu, Oba Abdul-Semiu Orimadegun, advised Ikorodu residents to embrace the use of cooking gas to protect the environment and help to reduce the adverse effects of climate change.

He commended LASEPA for sensitising Ikorodu residents on the benefits of cooking gas and on the need to protect the environment .

Mrs Ramota Amusa, a beneficiary of the free cooking gas cylinder, thanked the agency and commended the Lagos State Lottery and Games Authority for sponsoring the programme.

She urged other residents to embrace things that would protect the environment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the agency distributed free cooking gas cylinders to residents at the occasion.
