Lagos State Government has promised to fast-track electricity supply to communities in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of the State through the implementation of a new model of sustainable electricity supply.
The State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Olalere Odusote stated this when he met with traditional rulers and residents of communities at Magbon-Alade Secondary School, Magbon, Ibeju Lekki recently.
Speaking at the meeting, the commissioner, represented by the Director and Head of Power Department of the Ministry, Engr. Afeez Momoh, said that the power model will bring about a new narrative in electricity supply to residents of Ibeju-Lekki.
He revealed that the State Government has entered a partnership with African Development Bank, USAID and NRECA International with the support of EKEDC and IKEDC to guarantee stable power supply to the communities.
He also urged residents of the community to give maximum cooperation to the State Government and all its partners in order to bring the initiative to reality.
The Commissioner explained that the money needed to rehabilitate the power supply to the communities will be provided by African Development Bank under a cooperative arrangement with the support of USAID and NRECA.
On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ms. Sholabomi Shasore, said: “The State Government is determined to ensure the success of the initiative by giving the Electricity Cooperative Model, all necessary support”.
Shasore stated that the project when completed, will boost the economic growth of the Lekki area as business owners and all households within the communities will pay less on electricity tariffs when compared to generating power supply on their own.
She, however, added that more cooperation and support are expected from members of the communities, who are to play their part to ensure the full realisation of the project.
The Permanent Secretary pledged the commitment of the government to the project, assuring that the resolutions will be looked into and fully implemented.
