Lagos To Invest N44.33bn On Agriculture In 2024

Lagos State Government has disclosed that it would invest N44.32 billion on Agriculture sector of the State economy in 2024.

The government said ongoing aid for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME’s) remain its priority to stimulate economic growth and foster job creation.

Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, made the disclosure on Tuesday at Alausa Secretariat, the sit of the state government, during a press briefing on breakdown of the State 2024 budget.

He said the state’s commitment and support for Agriculture in the year 2024 will include funding for projects and programmes, comprehensive training programmes, and incentives tailored for farmers.

George said, “ The State’s five year Agric Roadmap stands as a testament to this commitment aimed at bolstering support for farmers and enhancing overall food systems. This initiative prompted the state to allocate a total sum of N44.33 billion to Central Food Authority, fostering projects such as the Cattle Feedlot project, Fish Processing Hub programmes and Wholesale Produce Hub and market,” adding that these endeavours will elevate food quality, reduce prices, and optimise the Agriculture sector in the long run.

On the Housing sector, George said part of the N550.689 billion budgeted for infrastructure development across the state in 2024 will be expended on development of affordable housing schemes and urban renewal projects towards improvement on the housing deficit in Lagos.

The Commissioner listed some of the social projects to be invested on in the year which include completion of 444 units of building projects at Sangotedo Phase ll, completion of 420 units of building projects at Ajara, near Badagry, and the construction of 136 housing units at lbeshe, near Ikorodu, among others.
