Lagos to develop infectious disease research centre

By Bisola Adeyemo

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced that his administration has commenced a project to develop an infectious disease research centre, to enable researchers to develop vaccines.

He said the government is also working to make medical provisions ready for illnesses affecting citizens, The Nation reports.

The governor spoke yesterday in Alausa, Ikeja at the Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health Conference held to commemorate this year’s ‘World Day for Safety’.

Sanwo-Olu spoke through the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Tayo Bamgbose-Martins.

Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) Director-General/CEO Mr. Lanre Mojola said the hazards of work-related accidents and illnesses, which were caused by unsafe conditions, acts and practices, necessitated the need for countries to put health and safety systems in place to change the narrative.
