Lagos puts 35 buildings in Magodo, Eti-Osa, others under lock and key

In a bid to restate the government’s stance on zero tolerance for building collapse and illegal developments across the state, the Lagos State Government has shut 35 buildings in Magodo, Ogudu and Eti-Osa areas of the state.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LABSCA, Gbolahan Oki, who led the enforcement team, visited construction sites and buildings in Eti-Osa, Magodo, Ogudu, Gbagada Phase II, and several other Local Government Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LABSCA and Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) b in Lagos State.

According to Oki, the 35 buildings were sealed during the exercise for offences ranging from construction without a permit to failure to obtain necessary authorisation from LASBCA and Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA).

The General Manager explained that while the officials of LASPPPA were on the ground to ascertain and validate the approvals obtained by the various construction sites visited and as well as monitor Layouts and Development Schemes, the officers from LABSCA were on the ground for identification of distressed and nonconforming buildings while also inspecting and certifying various stages of building construction works.

Oki, however, expressed the commitment of the Sanwo-Olu administration to ensuring that lives and property are safe through strict enforcement of the existing building regulatory system in the state.
