Lagos prosecutes 19 persons for indiscriminate dumping of waste

By Yemi Olakitan

Nineteen persons were sentenced to carry out community service at Oshodi for indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

This was revealed by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on their X on Friday.

According to LAWMA, the offenders were sentenced on Thursday 19 October, 2023 by a Magistrate’s Court in Oshodi for dumping waste at unauthorized locations.

The Lagos State government has consistently reiterated total intolerance of illegal and reckless waste disposal, in unauthorised places.

According to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s executive order on zero tolerance to environmental infractions, violators would be appropriately sanctioned under relevant environmental laws of the State, which forbade indiscriminate refuse disposal by residents.

LAWMA had intensified the distribution of waste disposal bags under its Initiative, for residents to sort their waste and dispose appropriately, through PSPs operating in their areas.
