The Awori Day Celebration, which aims to highlight the cultural history of Awori land as indigenes of Lagos state, will be successful thanks to the efforts of the Awori Advisory Council and the Lagos State Government.
The commitment was made at a press conference recently held by the Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN) to announce the arrangements for the Awori Day celebration, aimed at promoting tourism in Lagos state. Mr. Femi Martins, Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, organised the event.
He stated that the State Government has given the event its full support because it is consistent with the government’s commitment to promoting the state’s cultural heritage and its T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda.
Martins continued, “The State Government is interested in enhancing the status of its cultural heritage, and there are plans to make the Awori Day celebration a first-rate occasion that will be acknowledged internationally.”

He asserts that the Awori Day Celebration will raise the stature of Awori sons and daughters in Nigeria and abroad and underline the significant contributions the Awori have played in nation-building in all spheres of life.

Chairman of the Awori Day Central Working Committee, Prince Adetunji Fadina said, ‘the upcoming Awori Day Cultural Festival 2022 is intended to showcase to the world the rich culture and tourism products of the Awori people as part of their contributions to the development of tourism in Lagos State.’’

According to him, it became necessary and important to hold the press conference in order to inform the public of the event’s authorized date as well as other pertinent details.

He claims that in order to ensure broad participation, the event, which was originally scheduled for November 26 2022, will now take place on December 11, 2022, at Police College, Ikeja.

Prince Fadina expressed his gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its unrelenting commitment to making the first Awori Day Cultural Festival a success.

The date of December 11 will give the Awori people a platform to showcase their culture throughout Lagos and Ogun States, according to Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, the chairman of the Awori Day Advisory Council.

He declared that the Awori descendants had a variety of cultures to share with the world from various regions of Lagos, Ogun, and the Diaspora.
