Lagos moving toward Dubai via Eko Atlantic
By Bisola Adeyemo
Nigeria’s economic nerve centre, Lagos might be giving itself the skyline of the glitzy United Arab Emirate’s Dubai with the construction of the exquisite Eko Atlantic.
Sitting on the Atlantic with its imposing skyscrapers, Eko Atlantic, when completed will be a great delight to holiday lovers and those who cherish grand lifestyle.
Not just Dubai, Eko Atlantic can be compared with Windhoek.
But this is not a project without challenges. Government has been accused of selling Lagos to the highest bidders because being a top-notch and high-end, many Nigerians and Lagosians cannot afford to live there.
Completion deadline also suffers. Since the change of government in 2015, many who had put down stakes in the Eko Atlantic project suddenly stopped work.
Those who bought plots cannot come out to claim or develop their plots for fear they might be under the watch of the anti-corruption agencies.
Even the sandfilling has stopped since 2018.
It is said that the anti-corruption posture of the current government has sent jitters down the spine of financiers.
