Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has emphasized the need for using high capacity buses for transporting large number of people, saying that the more buses, the fewer cars and the carbon emissions.
The Commissioner stated this on Wednesday in Lagos during the 5th anniversary of the state owned Bus Service Limited (LBSL).
He said in order to guarantee a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future, the LBSL has unveiled a program to lessen the carbon footprint of its mass transit system.
Speaking along the same line, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LBSL, ……Oguntona, said that the Lagos State Climate Action Plan and Lagos State Transport Policy have led to the development of the LBSL Sustainability Policy.

According to him, this is a strategic framework aiming to enhance the quality of services and contribute to the overall well-being of Lagos State and Nigeria by integrating environmental, social, and governance principles.
As a result of its aim to provide intelligent and sustainable transportation solutions, he said, the organization is committed to minimizing the carbon footprint of its bus mass transit system as the transportation sector accounts for 20% of the state’s greenhouse gas emissions.
He went on to say that LBSL had reached important benchmarks, including as over 52 million passengers and 27 million kilometres of coverage over 30 routes and that over 1,862 people have graduated from the company’s driver training academy.
He adds that out of their 850 employees, 216 have worked there for more than five years.
Also, the Managing Director and CEO Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, commended the organization’s policy for its dedication to sustainability and the largest daily passenger carrying capacity in Lagos.
She said at Lagos residents value the regulator’s work and encourage LBSL to persist in its endeavours, underscoring the organization’s dedication to the transportation industry.
