Lagos’ Blue Line Rail System to Begin Operations in August, Red Line Testing to Commence

The Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, recently made an exciting announcement during the first-ever LAMATA business/investor’s forum held in Lagos.
She revealed that the highly anticipated Mass Transit Blue Line rail system will officially commence operations in August.
This development marks a significant milestone for the city’s transportation
infrastructure.
Mrs. Akinajo emphasized the positive impact of the Mass Transit Blue Line rail system, stating that it will revolutionize commuting in Lagos by providing a reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation. The rail system is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and enhance overall mobility for residents and visitors alike.
The Managing Director also disclosed that the agency is making remarkable progress with the first phase of the Red Line rail system, a project initiated by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who
inaugurated its initial phase on January 25.
The Red Line, which spans from Agbado to Oyingbo, is nearing completion. In line with their commitment to enhancing the transportation network in Lagos, LAMATA
plans to commence testing and passenger operations for the first phase of the Red Line rail system concurrently with the Blue Line in August 2023.
Expressing her satisfaction with the progress made, Mrs. Akinajo assured attendees of the forum that LAMATA is diligently finalizing all testing procedures to ensure a smooth and successful launch of the Mass Transit Blue Line.
She affirmed, “I am happy to inform you that
we are concluding all testing procedures to commence full passenger operations in August this year. We will release further details about the operations soon.”
