Lafarge Africa Introduces Eco Label Brand to Promote Green Construction

Lafarge Africa Plc has recently introduced the Eco Label brand, aimed at transparently communicating the environmental advantages of its sustainable building solutions. This branding initiative aligns with the company’s net zero commitment and supports its ambition to promote the use of low-impact products in green construction.

Lafarge UniCem, which constitutes approximately 23% of the company’s overall volume, is now an eco-friendly brand. The certified eco-friendly products have a significantly lower carbon footprint, around 30% less than the local industry standard.

The Eco Label encompasses a diverse range of green cement designed for high performance, sustainability, and circular construction. By offering these eco-friendly cement options, Lafarge enables end-users to make greener choices and contributes to Nigeria’s carbon reduction efforts in the manufacturing sector.

The official launch of the product took place in Calabar. Khaled El Dokani, the Country Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa, expressed his enthusiasm for this significant milestone, highlighting the company’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions and combating global climate change.

As the first local cement manufacturer to introduce eco-friendly cement to the Nigerian market, Lafarge Africa takes pride in the rollout of the Eco brand. This initiative accelerates the transition towards more sustainable building materials, supporting greener construction practices.

Sotirios Valsamakis, Plant Manager of Lafarge Mfamosing Plant, reiterated the company’s ongoing dedication to sustainable development, adhering to global best practices in Environmental,.Social, and Governance. Leveraging the four sustainability pillars of Climate and Energy, Circular Economy, Environment, and Community, Lafarge Africa, as a member of Holcim, continues to drive innovation, leading to the introduction of this eco-friendly cement brand.

Vorke Enite, Plant Customer Development Manager, Sales & Marketing at Lafarge Africa, emphasized that the Eco Label launch adheres to global best practices and is an initiative with zero emissions.

Engr. Ninma Apim, the Cross River State Coordinator of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), praised Lafarge Africa for being the first cement factory in Nigeria to introduce a brand like Unicem Portland, emphasizing the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate global warming. Apim expressed hope that other plants would follow suit and reduce carbon emissions to create a greener Earth”.
