KWEPA hails Unilorin over high sanitation standard

 Kwara Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has commended University of Ilorin for maintaining high standard of environmental sanitation.

General Manager of KWEPA, Alhaji Saad Dan-Musa, gave the commendation during an environmental inspection, carried out by the agency at the university.

He noted that the institution had been complying fully with the state’s environmental laws.

Dan-Musa, who led the team of environmental officers from Departments of Food and Hygiene, Waste Management and, Fumigation and Laboratory on the visit, said that the inspection was aimed at ensuring that there was regular fumigation exercise across schools in Kwara.                                                                                                                         According to him, the monitoring exercise is to ensure that the laid down environmental laws concerning restaurants, eateries and factories are well-observed.

The KWEPA boss urged secondary schools and higher institutions in the state to keep their environment clean and well-fumigated, to prevent snakes, bedbugs and other health hazards that could occur due to improper and inadequate sanitation.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, while receiving KWEPA team, assured of the university’s cooperation at all times and that the school would continue to comply with the state’s environmental laws.

Abdulkareem said that the health of students and staff members of the institution was paramount to the management.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that during the inspection, KWEPA team assessed the university restaurants, bakery, hostels and their surroundings. (NAN)
