In a bid to promote sustainable agriculture and enhance food security in his constituency, Rep. Tunji Olawuyi, representing Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero of Kwara, recently organized a two-day training session on water pumping machines for irrigation purposes.

The training, conducted in collaboration with the National Productivity Centre (NPC), aimed to empower women and youths in rice farming, providing them with valuable skills and tools for a prosperous agricultural future.

The event, held at the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area in Omu-Aran, witnessed the participation of beneficiaries from various farmers’ associations, including Agbeloba, Mekunu, Arike, Ominira, Agbedun, and Agbeniyi.

Mr. Adebayo Lawal, the resource person from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), emphasized the importance of empowering women and youths in rice farming through the effective utilization of water pumping machines.

Mastering the use of these machines is not only vital for environmental preservation but also crucial for driving economic growth and improving livelihoods in the agricultural sector.

During the training, participants were equipped with comprehensive knowledge of water pumping machines, including their functionality, maintenance, and proper usage to ensure efficient rice farming.

The training aimed to instill practical skills that would contribute to the productivity and success of their agricultural endeavors.

Representing Rep. Tunji Olawuyi, Mr. Ganiyu Salami, the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the legislator, reaffirmed the commitment of the representative to empower the people of the constituency continually.

He stressed that promoting sustainable agriculture and ensuring food security remain top priorities for Rep. Olawuyi.

At the conclusion of the training, the beneficiaries were awarded certificates and provided with water pumping machines and half bags of rice seedlings to kickstart their farming activities.

This gesture aims to support and encourage their progress towards self-sufficiency in rice production.

The initiative spearheaded by Rep. Tunji Olawuyi reflects the collective effort to empower women and youths in the agricultural sector, fostering sustainable practices and ensuring a prosperous future for the community.
