Kwara partners World Bank to combat climate change, other environmental challenges

Kwara State Government in collaboration with World Bank has commenced a project to tackle climate change, environmental degradation and related health challenges in the state.

The state’s deputy governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi disclosed this to journalists during the inauguration of the state steering and technical committees of Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) in Ilorin on Thursday.

Alabi urged committee members to rid the state of any environmental challenges and devastating effects of global warming in due time.

Leading the committee according to him, is the Commissioner for Environment, Mrs. Abosede Buraimoh, and nine other members.

On her part, the committee leader disclosed that the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the sum of 500million for the project to be carried out effectively.

The commissioner described ACReSAL as a multi-sectoral project involving ministries of environment, agriculture, and water resources.

She said that the project would be implemented through the conscious build-up of agricultural and climatic resilience of the environment in a strategic and sustainable manner.
