Kwara loses 30 shops to inferno at Oro Central market

A fire accident that destroyed 30 shops has occurred at Oro, Irepodun local government area of Kwara state.

According to the Nation, the fire occurred around 3 pm on Monday at the Oro Central market containing 354 shops.

The fire accident was reportedly caused by careless burning of refuse by yet-to-be-identified persons.

Spokesperson of the Fire Service Hassan Adekunle also confirmed the incident.

Adekunle said: “Although the conflagration was huge, however, our firemen were able to in no time the put out ravaging inferno.

“Out of the 354 shops in the market area, 30 shops were consumed by the fire, and the other remaining ones were rescued by the firemen.

“According to our officers present at the scene, the inferno was caused due to the careless refuses to burn by one unknown person, and spread to a shop, and later escalated to many other shops in that vicinity area.”

He charged all to be alive to their “fire safety responsibility in order to drastically reduce the incessant fire outbreaks that have been happening in our state.”
