The Kwara Government has renewed its commitment to mitigate the effect of climate change on the people, in order to reduce its hazards and enhance safe and conducive environment.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Malam Shehu Ndanusa, revealed this at the inauguration of the State Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change.
“Considering the impacts of Climate Change on the people and environment, there is need to constitute a Committee to formulate policy and make decision across relevant MDAs.
“This is to identify and discuss climate change impacts and the entry points for mainstreaming adaptation into policy and sectoral planning of the state,” he said.
Ndanusa explained that the committee was charged with responsibilities to provide a communication link between government and the entire community, also to work and overcome barriers to implementation.
He stated that they would identify and take action on emerging issues and opportunities in climate change, as well as assist with funding and grant applications.
The commissioner therefore enjoined the committee to see their call to duty as an opportunity to serve and contribute to the development of Kwara.
Hajia Afusat Ibrahim, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, appreciated Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritising the welfare of the people.
She, therefore, assured the committee of government’s support in the task ahead.
