By Abdullahi Lukman

The Kwara State government has earned a global recognition at the 2025 World Water Cities Forum (WWCF) in Korea for showcasing its newly commissioned three-way Integrated Water System in Otte/Budo-Egba, Asa Local Council.

Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade, who represented the state at the forum, disclosed the achievement in Ilorin while presenting his report from the event.

He noted that the forum, hosted in the Republic of Korea — a global leader in water technology — provided a platform for countries to exchange innovative water management solutions.

Lade said the integrated system drew international
attention as a practical, sustainable model for improving water access in rural and water-scarce communities.

He also participated in a fireside chat at the Korea International Water Week (KIWW), speaking on “WASH: A Catalyst for Safe, Healthy, and Sustainable Community Development.”

According to him, clean water, sanitation and hygiene remain critical to public health and overall community development in Kwara State.

He added that partnerships combining Korea’s advanced water technologies with local innovations could enhance long-term improvements in the state’s WASH sector.

As part of KIWW activities, participants visited the Korea Water Cluster (KWC), where they toured innovation centres and facilities dedicated to testing new water technologies.

Lade stressed that Kwara’s participation in WWCF and KIWW reflects the government’s commitment to global best practices and aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s reforms, which focus on rehabilitating major waterworks, upgrading water infrastructure and improving access to safe water across urban and rural areas.
