More than 4,000 residents in Nyandarua County, as well as animals, would benefit from clean water from boreholes that have been sunk across the county.
Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki, announced this in Rurii while on a tour of water projects in Nyandarua Central Sub County.
Kariuki urged all farmers in the county to take advantage of boreholes and desilted dams to practice irrigation farming for business.
Kariuki, said being the food basket for the county, lack of water has made livelihood unpalatable in the neighborhood.
The boreholes have a capacity of producing over 400,000 litres per hour, many residents can now live comfortably without the agony of searching for water.
Kenya news agency quoted her as saying “We have set up management committees for each project to ensure that the resource is fully and well utilized for the benefit of all.
“Operation of the project, the protection of the panels and distribution will lie on the shoulders of the committees,” she said.
