Kebbi Govt Hails FG Over Aerial Pest Control Initiative

By Grace Samuel

Kebbi State Governor, Nasiru Idris has lauded the federal government over the aerial spraying campaign in Kebbi and nine other states in the north, which is to combat migratory agricultural pests.

Idris said the program will safeguard crops and boost food production. He pointed out that the danger posed by quelea birds and other pests to Nigeria’s food security is a serious concern.

These pests, according to the governor, can severely damage crops like rice and wheat, which are crucial dietary staples in the country.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security recently announced the
aerial spraying campaign to combat migratory agricultural pests.

This initiative aims to control quelea birds and other pests that could jeopardize the country’s food security and farmers’ livelihoods.

The launch site for the spray was chosen in Kebbi State because of its significant farming activities in rice and wheat cultivation.

“The recent aerial spraying campaign highlights the government’s dedication to tackling agricultural challenges in Nigeria,” the ministry noted.
