Kebbi First Lady emphasises the importance of home garden among women

In a push to enhance food security and self-sufficiency, wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Zainab Idris, has called on women across the state to cultivate their own gardens.

During an inspection visit to her garden at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Hajiua Idris emphasized the importance of home gardening as part of the broader “Every Home, a Garden” initiative championed by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Hajiya Zainab’s garden, which features crops such as maize, vegetables, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and potatoes, serves as an example for women in Kebbi State to follow.

She hopes her efforts will inspire others to embrace gardening as a way to improve their families’ food supply and contribute to the state’s agricultural output.

To further motivate women, Hajiya Idris announced a national competition later this year, where the best female gardener in the country will win a star prize of 20 million naira. The gardener with the most impressive garden from Kebbi State will represent the state in this prestigious event.

In addition to her garden, the Kebbi First Lady also manages a fish pond, underscoring her commitment to promoting food security through diverse agricultural practices.

She encouraged all women to take up gardening, not only to feed their families but also to be part of this growing movement aimed at making every home a garden.

This initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative Agricultural Scheme and highlights the significant role women can play in achieving food security and sustainability in Nigeria.
