Katsina State has renewed its strategic partnership with Genesis Energy Group to expedite and enhance its transition to renewable energy.
The collaboration, according to the State Governor Dikko Umar Radda, aims to ease economic hardship and promote sustainable development across the state.
During a recent meeting at Government House, Governor Radda and Genesis Energy Chairman, Akinwole Omoboriowo II, reviewed ongoing solar power projects and discussed plans for expansion.
The partnership has already delivered significant results, including a 1MW Solar MiniGrid providing 12 hours of electricity daily to Government House and a 300KW solar system powering the General Hospital in Katsina.
These projects have reduced the state’s reliance on diesel, cut operational costs, and improved healthcare delivery.
Governor Radda praised Genesis Energy for their work, emphasizing that reliable electricity is essential for economic growth and social wellbeing.
He highlighted that access to clean and steady power would help local businesses, schools, and hospitals thrive while supporting Nigeria’s national goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
Chairman Omoboriowo announced plans to extend MiniGrid installations to the Green Economic Zone along Jibia Road and Lambar Rimi, home to the state’s wind farm.
These expansions are expected to drive industrial activity and improve power access across Katsina, in alignment with the new Electricity Act 2024.
The partnership review was attended by several government officials, including the Governor’s Special Advisers on Power and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the General Manager of the State Rural Electrification Board.
