By Abdullahi Lukman

The Kano State Government has announced the resignation of its Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa, with effect from Monday, March 2, 2026.

Governor Abba Yusuf accepted the resignation, according to a statement issued Tuesday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.

The statement said Doguwa formally stepped down on Monday, ending his tenure at the Ministry of Water Resources after about one year in the role.

Doguwa had previously served as Commissioner for Education, where he was instrumental in advancing reforms, including the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector, before being redeployed to oversee water resources.

During his time at the water ministry, the governor noted that Doguwa recorded notable achievements, particularly in rehabilitating water facilities and expanding potable water supply to several communities across the state.

His leadership was also credited with strengthening institutional capacity and improving service delivery in line with the administration’s goal of sustainable water access.

Governor Yusuf described the former commissioner as disciplined and hardworking, expressing appreciation for his loyalty and service to the state.

He wished him well in his future endeavours and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to maintaining progress in the water sector.

Meanwhile, the governor has directed the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, to oversee the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive commissioner.
