By Faridat Salifu

In a significant move to transform waste collection and management, Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State has inaugurated a fleet of advanced Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs) and 30 motorcycles.

Named “Operation Nazafa,” this initiative is a substantial stride towards promoting a cleaner environment in the bustling metropolis and its vicinity.

At the inauguration ceremony, Governor Kabir-Yusuf reiterated his administration’s dedication to upholding high standards of cleanliness and sanitation across the state.

He also committed to resolving the pending entitlements of the Kano Refuse Management and Sanitation Board workers, who were impacted by the restructuring under the previous administration.

Governor Kabir-Yusuf instructed the concerned agencies to swiftly compile detailed lists of the affected workers to facilitate a quick resolution.

He commended the Managing Director of the Board, Alhaji Ahmadu Dan-Zago, and his team for their meticulous work in refurbishing the fleet, thereby significantly improving waste management efficiency.

Alhaji Ahmadu Dan-Zago expressed his appreciation for Governor Kabir-Yusuf’s unwavering support for the board’s initiatives.

He pointed out the remarkable improvements brought by the updated fleet, noting that each truck’s efficiency is tantamount to the labor of 20 workers.

This upgrade is expected to advance Kano State towards its goals of cleanliness and a healthier living environment for its citizens.

The launch of the new vehicles signifies Kano State government’s proactive stance in tackling environmental challenges and enhancing the quality of life for its inhabitants.

With these modern vehicles and motorcycles now part of the waste management operations, Kano is set to become a model for effective and sustainable urban sanitation practices in the region.
