Kano State collects 4,300 tonnes of garbage in 13 days, enough for 787 trucks

More than four tonnes of garbage have been collected in Kano in the last two weeks.

The garbage was collected during the state government’s special two-week annual cleaning exercise to usher in the rainy season and stave flooding.

Garbage collected were enough to fill 787 disposal trucks.

Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabiru Getso, said on Friday in Kano that 4,300 tonnes were actually collected in 30 locations in the city-state.

The annual cleaning normally holds for 10 days, but had to be extended this year because of the enormity of garbage waiting to be collected.

Getso commended stakeholders that took part and contributed to the success of the evacuation.

The commissioner visited the Kofar Mata Eid Ground to supervise the cleaning of the place preparatory to Eid-el-Fitr prayers marking the end of Ramadan fasting.
