The Kano State Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency (KAZOWMA), in collaboration with the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), has established a 12-person committee to protect the Falgore Game Reserve in Kano, the state capital.
This announcement was made in an official statement sent to news outlets by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Farouk Isa-Musa, on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Kano. The statement cited Prof. Aliyu Jauro, Director-General of NESREA, as the source of this information.
According to the announcement, the committee’s primary mandate is to devise strategies to combat poaching and curb charcoal production within the reserve.
Sadiq Kura-Mohammed, Managing Director of KAZOWMA, emphasized that the agency would not stand idly by while saboteurs threaten the state’s game reserves.
Kura-Mohammed issued a stern warning to those involved in these activities, urging them to cease their actions to prevent environmental damage, including the adverse effects of climate change and global warming.
Alhaji Lukman Muhammad-Lawan, the State Coordinator for NESREA, encouraged committee members to dedicate themselves to their responsibilities.
He reiterated NESREA’s commitment to biodiversity preservation, wildlife protection, and overall environmental conservation.
