Kano Cracks Down on Stray Animals Damaging Urban Beautification Trees

By Abdullahi Lukman
The Kano State Government has launched a crackdown on stray animals destroying newly planted trees along major roads as part of its ongoing urban renewal and environmental beautification efforts.
This development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, last Friday.
He said the tree-planting campaign, which has already begun along Lodge Road and Race Course, aims to reduce heat, curb air pollution, and improve the city’s overall appearance.
Dr. Hashim raised alarm over reports that some residents have allowed goats to roam freely and graze on the young trees planted by the ministry.
“We have already apprehended some goats found destroying the trees, and they are currently being held at Zone I police headquarters,” he said.
The commissioner called on residents to support the government’s efforts by ensuring their animals are properly controlled and by cooperating with environmental officials.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to extending the greening initiative to all major roads across the state.
The warning comes as part of broader efforts by the state government to promote sustainable urban development and combat the effects of climate change through reforestation and city beautification projects.
