By Abdullahi lukman

Kaduna State has signed a $400,000 Technical Cooperation Project (TCP) agreement with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) aimed at advancing agricultural development, improving food security, and promoting sustainable practices in the state.

Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, and FAO’s Country Representative in Nigeria, M. Koffy Dominique Kuaku, signed the MoU in Kaduna recently.

The partnership, which focuses on tomato production, seeks to address post-harvest losses and boost local farmers’ productivity.

By leveraging FAO’s technical expertise and resources, the project will provide crucial support to local tomato farmers and encourage sustainable agricultural practices that will have long-term benefits for the region.

Governor Uba Sani highlighted the importance of the initiative as a key step in strengthening Kaduna’s agricultural sector.

“As an agrarian state with vast agricultural potential, we are well-positioned to meet both local and national demand for tomatoes,” he said, adding, “This project will enhance the tomato value chain, create new opportunities for youth, and improve the livelihoods of our farmers.”
