Kaduna ACReSAL secures land validation for erosion control works

By Abdullahi Lukman

The Kaduna State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project has secured statutory land validation to move forward with planned gully erosion control projects in several parts of Kaduna State.

The State Project Coordinator, Hadiza Halid, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Kaduna Geographic Information Service on Friday in Kaduna.

Halid said the visit aimed to harmonise land records and verify property data under the project’s Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) ahead of civil works in designated erosion corridors.

She explained that the validation would ensure lawful compensation for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in Rigasa, Tudun Wada, Kawo and Zaria, in line with established safeguard procedures.

According to her, securing statutory backing is essential for transparency, due process and proper documentation before construction begins.

She noted that accurate mapping and verification of land titles would help prevent disputes and facilitate smooth implementation of the project.

Halid added that residents of the affected communities had earlier been sensitised in preparation for the erosion control intervention.

She described ACReSAL as a joint initiative of the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government and the World Bank, designed to strengthen environmental resilience and protect livelihoods in climate-vulnerable communities.

The coordinator observed that the targeted corridors have experienced recurrent flooding and severe gully erosion, especially during peak rainy seasons.

She said civil works would commence after compensation payments and final validation processes are completed.

In his remarks, the Director-General of KADGIS, Bashir Ibrahim, commended ACReSAL for what he described as a necessary and procedural collaboration.

He assured the agency’s full support to ensure proper documentation and the successful execution of the intervention.
