Kabo LGC in Kano moves to end open defecation
Kabo Local Government Council in Kano State, has taken measures to check the practice of open defecation and maintain clean environment in the area.
The Council’s Information Officer, Malam Labaran Garba, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kabo, that the measure was taken at a meeting with some stakeholders.
He said the meeting was attended by the heads of security agencies, head of council’s Water and Sanitation Department, representative of the District Head, UNICEF and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
He said that the council Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Kabiru-Kabo, directed all households to ensure that they have functional toilets for the use of members of their household.
“The district head will also direct his subjects, through the ward and village heads that whoever don’t have a toilet, should construct it, and nobody should defecate in the open.
“Because, after open defecation, water carries the faeces to water sources, which after drinking, may lead to the outbreak of diseases, that we don’t want to happen,” he said.
He said that the measure would also go along way in enhancing personal hygiene and clean environment.
