Residents of Akure, the capital city of Ondo state have been thrown into jubilation as the government has finally made accessible, the pedestrian bridge along Oba Adeshida road at the Oja-Oba (Oba market).
The pedestrian bridge was built in 1992 during the administration of late Bamidele Ishole Olumilua.
For 29 years, the bridge has not been used as a result of the median railings that were broken in many parts, thus, pedestrians sought to cross to either side of the road.
The Ondo State government, last month, began the replacement of the median iron railings with concrete jerseys from the Post Office to Texaco Filling Station.
Ondo Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Saka Ogunleye said it was part of ways to making Akure a befitting state capital.
Ogunleye said it was the final government step to ease traffic flow by putting a stop to crossing the median by making use of the bridge, according to the Nation.
While welcoming the development, the residents expressed gratitude to the state government for alleviating their pain.
