Senator Babangida Hussain of Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District has donated 12,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers across his constituency in a bid to boost food production and reduce farming costs during the rainy season.
The fertiliser distribution was officially launched in Sule-Tankarkar, with each of the 12 local government areas in the district set to receive one truckload of 50kg bags.
Eight additional truckloads were allocated to registered farmers’ associations. Senator Hussain emphasized that the fertiliser is being distributed free of charge to support grassroots farmers and enhance agricultural productivity.
“This is not just a political gesture—it’s about supporting food security and empowering those who feed the nation,” Hussain said during the flag-off event.
He added that ₦500,000 was allocated to each council to ensure smooth transportation to rural distribution points.
The primary beneficiaries include members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and verified farmers’ groups.
The senator urged transparency in distribution and called on local officials to ensure the fertiliser reaches genuine farmers.
Professor Abdullah I. Shehu Ma’aji, Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, praised the initiative as aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on job creation and food security.
Tasiu Adamu, Chairman of Sule-Tankarkar LGA, speaking on behalf of the 12 council chairmen, pledged to oversee fair distribution and lauded the senator’s continued support for rural development.
The intervention is expected to improve yields, lower input costs, and strengthen local food systems amid rising global and domestic agricultural challenges.
