Israel warns of flooding amid heavy rain, strong winds forecast

Israeli authorities have warned of possible flooding across large parts of the country on Monday, as heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected to intensify a winter weather system.
The warning follows a weekend of unseasonably cold and rainy conditions, during which parts of northern Israel, including the Karmiel area, recorded nearly 50 millimeters of rain on Saturday, according to Hebrew media.
Weather conditions were forecast to ease slightly on Sunday, with intermittent showers from northern Israel to the northern Negev desert. However, concerns remained over potential flooding in eastern streams.
The system is expected to strengthen on Monday, bringing heavy rain to central Israel, including the Sharon and Shfela regions, as well as Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Rainfall totals of 60 to 80 millimeters are forecast in some areas within a few hours.
Flood warnings have been issued for the Alexander, Yarkon, Ayalon, Sorek and Lachish streams.
Authorities also cautioned that strong winds, potentially reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour, could accompany the storms.
Rainfall is expected to weaken by Tuesday, though scattered showers may continue, particularly in northern Israel.
