Invite Expert’s To Address Issues Of Incessant Flooding In Nigeria – Senator Nwoko

Senator Nwoko Chinedu Munir has urged the governments to hire experts in addressing the issues of incessant flooding revolving the country annually, saying that it required urgent and proactive actions to safe lives and properties.

The senator representing the senatorial district of Delta North made this appeal on Wednesday at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

He added that flooding has been a recurring issues everywhere across the country, particularly the Delta areas which is the bottom of the country,

Nwoko lamented that the Niger Delta area takes the brunt of the floods that start from Cameroon, through Benue and River Niger down to Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and into the Atlantic Ocean.” We know that there are solutions and these solutions must be addressed without further delay. One, the river channels must be dredged and dredged immediately.

“Secondly, what must be done is to build embankments along the waterfront, by dredging rivers Niger and Benue without don’t buildings what to forestall future floods is a problem.

“Thirdly, the solution is to build dams, these dams can contain water floods, and the dams can be used to irrigate farms, can be used to generate power, can also be used to provide homes with water.

Furthermore, Senator Nwoko said the government should step aside the bureaucracy of budgetary and set up a small group to look at what is causing the flooding.

He further appealed to President Tinubu to invite experts in dredging rivers, and also to look at the mechanism of building embankments, and dams, alongside with the costing

He added that the President should make a provision under a special arrangement, special budgetary provision, “it does not matter the costs because the cost of floods can be so devastating. Houses destroyed lives lost, farms destroyed.

“No livelihood for those who were affected, and millions of people are affected annually.

“Government should mobilize experts to stop the unnecessary flooding happening every year.”
