Illegal Miners Flee OAU Land

Following public outcry and writing of letter by the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development reporting activities of illegal miners on the university land and request to withdraw the purported operation licences of the miners, mining activities has stopped for the time being.

The mining activities on the university land were said to be illegal, as miners’ operation was reported not to get the consent of OAU management whereby the illegal miners were moving closer to staff quaters and endangering the lives of the staffs, students and the community at large.

Reports has it that this is the second time the illegal miners would feast on the OAU land.

They first came in June 2022 and returned to the land a couple of weeks ago to carry out the nefarious activities which necessitated public outcry and OAU management contact with the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development for federal action to dislodge the miners.
