How CCECC demanded for $129 million for metro rail staff training – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration Barrister Nyesom Wike has revealed that, the Chinese company handling the Abuja metro rail project had demanded the sum of $129 million for training of staff who would manage some aspect the Abuja metro line.
Wike made the revelation on Tuesday in his office in Abuja during a chat with media executive, noting that his intervention forced the CCECC to drastically reduce the scandalous substantially.
” CCECC had an agreement with FCDA, approved by the Federal Executive Council, to train our people for the sun of $129 million for 29 months. So l called the company, it was like a sabotage, its either you have made your money in terms of contract and now you don’t want us to be able to run this project . how do l spend $129 million for training, what kind of training is that? Even if you are taking all of them to China, how much would one person pay?”
Wike insisted he had to pit his foot down or else abandon the project
“I cannot approve this figure i better go and tell Mr President that it is unfortunate there is nothing we can do let us just abandon this project. But do you know what happened we came down to $75 million , $129 million to $75 million”, he said.
