Housing Ministry Pledges Collaboration with FCT Fire Service for Building Safety

By Grace Samuel

Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, has affirmed his ministry’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service to enhance the safety of public buildings in the nation’s capital against fire incidents.

This assurance came during a recent courtesy visit from a delegation of the FCT Fire Service, where Dangiwa urged the agency to advocate for the installation of firefighting equipment in all buildings.

Emphasizing the significance of incorporating adequate access to firefighting appliances in building design, Minister Dangiwa highlighted the necessity of fire extinguishers, sprinklers, and smoke detectors in public buildings to ensure the safety of occupants and properties.

He commended the agency for its prompt response and dedication in handling fire outbreaks within the FCT.

Acting Director of the FCT Fire Service, Adebayo Zacchaeus, reiterated their commitment to strengthening the existing partnership in combating fire outbreaks.

He mentioned the FCT administration’s encouragement for buildings to include fire safety measures in their architectural plans from the initial stages of construction.

Furthermore, Zacchaeus emphasized the agency’s pursuit of additional partnerships to ensure compliance with the FCT management’s directive requiring all buildings with four or more stories to install firefighting equipment.

This collaborative effort aims to safeguard lives and properties, underscoring the mutual commitment of both entities to fire safety in public spaces within the FCT.
