Gwarzo LG distributes 2,000 bags of fertilisers to farmers

Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State has distributed 2,000 bags of fertilisers to farmers in the area to boost food production.

Dr Mani Tsoho, the council’s Interim Management Committee Chairman announced this while flagging off the 2024 fertiliser distribution exercise at Gwarzo on Monday.

Tsoho said that the exercise was meant to encourage and support the farmers to boost their productivity, eradicate poverty and enhance national food security.

“We believe by providing our farmers with the necessary farming inputs, they will be able to increase their production, improve their revenue base, thereby improving their livelihood.

“The distribution exercise is part of the Kano State Government Agricultural Development Programme directed towards enhancing food production across the state.

“The present administration gives special attention to agricultural programmes through training and capacity building for farmers, provision of improved seeds, fertilisers and other agricultural inputs at subsidised rates,” Tsoho said.

He added that 6,000 bags of NPK fertilisers would also be distributed to farmers free-of-charge, while 2,400 bags would be sold at subsidised rates.

In his speech, the Head of Agric Department, Aminu Ali charged farmers to make judicious use of the items to enhance their earnings and ensure steady food supply to the market.

Some of the farmers who spoke at the venue commended Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf and the local government chairman for the gesture.

They also promised to use the items diligently to increase crops cultivation towards enhanced yields.
